A traditional Jamaican dish, ackee and saltfish is a dish of fried ackee fruit and cod fish, typically served with boiled green bananas and boiled potatoes. It is very common in Jamaica, but it’s also enjoyed by many Caribbean people, including people from Trinidad and Tobago. This recipe can be used to make breakfast, lunch or dinner! Try this recipe today!

Caribbean Style Ackee & Saltfish

Ackee & Saltfish is a popular dish from the Caribbean. It’s a great way to start your day, with its sweet and salty flavors that will keep you coming back for more. Ackee is a small, orange fruit that looks like an eggplant but tastes nothing like it. The flesh of ackee is very dense, so it can be hard to eat without breaking through the shell.

To prepare ackee for cooking or eating straight out of hand: you need first to remove the outer skin with a knife; then slice into quarters lengthwise; scoop out seeds with spoon; peel outer layer off again using knife; discard spine at end of each quarter where seed was removed previously before cutting into even slices across grainy side facing downward towards plate instead then top with saltfish (or other seafood) depending on preference!

How To Cook Ackee & Saltfish

Ackee and saltfish is a traditional Jamaican dish that’s eaten at any time of the day. The dish consists of ackee fruit, which are small black fruits with a hard shell that look like green olives. They’re usually served whole but can also be cut into halves or quarters for eating. If you’re cooking this recipe in a cast iron skillet (which is ideal), heat up your skillet on medium-high heat with oil inside it and then add your ackee halves or quarters to it along with saltfish pieces as well as other ingredients like pepper powder, onions and tomatoes if desired and also, do not forget about the water!

Cook until soft enough so that when you stick a fork into one half of an ackee piece all the way through its center there will be no resistance from its fleshy interior; check often because this process might take anywhere between 20 minutes up to 30 depending on how hot your stove top gets while cooking these ingredients together!

How To Use Ackee & Saltfish in Other Dishes

Ackee & Saltfish can be used in many different dishes. You can use ackee and saltfish to make stew. You just need to add water, chicken or beef stock, and oregano for flavor. You can also add other veggies such as carrots or potatoes if you like! Make soups also with ackee and saltfish for lunch or dinner! Just throw everything into a pot and let it simmer until ready to eat. Add any spices you like when serving up this delicious African dish – from cumin powder to thyme leaves the possibilities of making this recipe are endless!

Salad is another great way to enjoy this tasty meal at home or on-the-go. Just toss in some lettuce leaves along with tomatoes or cucumbers then drizzle over them some good olive oil before dressing up with lemon juice/vinegar dressing if desired.
