Oreo Sushi: Easy (and Tasty) Japanese Dessert Recipe
I’m always on the lookout for a good dessert, and this one was simply too good to pass up. The cookie crust, white chocolate filling and dark chocolate outer shell all make for an amazing combination of flavors. The best part about this recipe? It’s so easy that you could even make it at home!
Oreos are smashed up and then reshaped into sushi rolls to create oreo sushi. In essence, you take some oreos, separate them, and smash them. Then, you combine the crushed cookies with milk to make a dough. Oreo cream is applied after the dough has been flattened out. Like a sushi roll, roll everything up and cut it into pieces.
For the filling:
- Melt white chocolate chips or wafers and coconut oil in a microwave or double boiler over medium heat. Stir until smooth, then let cool slightly.
- In large bowl, mix together crushed Oreos with melted chocolate mixture until evenly coated; stir again until well combined and clumps appear to be gone (if you find that there are still some small clumps of cookie, give it another quick stir).
1 1/2 cups white chocolate chips, or white candy coating wafers
White chocolate chips are available in most grocery stores and can be used to create a vegan, gluten, free and raw version of this recipe. As with any food product, it’s important to check the ingredients before you buy so that you know what you’re getting. White chocolate chips are made from cocoa butter, sugar and milk solids—all of which may not be vegan or gluten, free depending on how they were produced.
1 1/2 tablespoons coconut oil
Coconut oil is a healthy fat that can be used in baking, cooking, smoothies, coffee and desserts. It’s also great for salad dressings and popcorn.
10 Oreos (about 2 cups), crushed into fine crumbs
- Crush the cookies into fine crumbs: If you don’t want to use a food processor or blender, you can do this by hand with a rolling pin (a mini one will work best). But if you have one, I recommend using it to save time and effort.
- If using vanilla Oreos instead of chocolate, substitute ½ tablespoon vanilla extract for the water or milk called for in the recipe above.
Optional color, candies, and toppings for decoration
- Use a toothpick to dip in the chocolate.
- Use a toothpick to dip in the sprinkles.
For the outer shell:
- Chocolate chips.
- Candy coating.
- Chocolate melts, dark or white chocolate, cocoa butter and powder.
- Peanut butter (creamy or crunchy) and peanuts!
1 cup dark chocolate chips, or dark chocolate candy coating wafers
Dark chocolate is the most common form of chocolate chips found in grocery stores. Darker in color than milk chocolate, it has a bitter taste that some people love and others can’t quite get used to. It’s also more nutritious. It has more antioxidants than other types of chocolates, which means it may help reduce your risk of heart disease and cancer (though this hasn’t been proven).
A sushi dessert recipe
This recipe is so fun and easy to make with kids. It’s also a great recipe to make with friends or family. If you’re looking for a new way to add some variety to your next party, consider making this Oreo Sushi dessert!
How do I create rolls that are precisely rounded?
Use the plastic wrap as a guide while you roll the sushi, being sure to do it gently, evenly, and firmly throughout the whole roll. Wrap the roll in plastic wrap and leave it in the refrigerator for a few minutes to firm up before slicing for extra, clean rounds. Instead of just pressing down on the knife while slicing, utilize a slicing motion.
The BEST Oreo Sushi Recipe
The ideal store, bought cookie is an Oreo. You can accomplish so much with them. You may soak them, use them to make mug cakes, oreo sushi, among other things. Yes, you heard correctly—oreo sushi! When you can make oreos into sushi, why eat them the traditional way? Some of you would believe that oreo sushi would be considered a disgrace by Japanese people, but I can promise you that they are entirely on board with innovation! In addition, it is evident that this oreo sushi is not authentic sushi. They are a tasty and entertaining oreo treat in the form of miniature sushi rolls. Bussin, as the young people say!
